For those of us who delight in the wondrous invention we call makeup, the brand Urban Decay will sound very familiar to you. Personally, I have invested hundreds of dollars into the Naked palette (one, two, and three) and spent hours at Sephora swatching and comparing colors. This is why I am very excited to write about their latest product, the Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Collection. This collection is special not just because of the product, however amazing it is, it is special because of the app Urban Decay released in conjunction with the product.
The Tinder-inspired app was released to promote Urban Decay‘s new Vice Lipstick collection – which includes 120 shades. The app lets you take a selfie and “try on” every shade, then swipe to choose the colors you like the most. Another cool feature is that it lets you create an album with your picks and share it with your friends so they can weigh in. Urban Decay also created a Snapchat lens that lets you try on the shades.
Urban Decay teamed up with Oven Bits, a digital design studio to create the app with a goal to promote engagement and allow people to try on the lipstick shades without having to go to a brick and mortar store. The app is a huge success and now we have some interesting back-end data to share with you.
-The app reached 100k downloads in 20 days since it launched
-Most of the app users are using the “experiment” feature and flipping through pics
-Most sessions are about 5 minutes long
-Just over half of the users are returning users
